Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, a campus of Methodist Hospital, honored breast cancer survivors and remembered those lost to the disease by illuminating the building with pink lights during one week in October.

At the Beat Cancer Lighting Ceremony on October 22, hospital CEO Greg Seiler joined a breast cancer survivor and a Girl Scout in flipping the switch to illuminate the facility. As part of the ceremony, cancer survivors held white glow sticks and supporters held pink glow sticks, adding to the illumination.

KABB-TV’s “Daytime @ Nine” co-host Kimberly Crawford emceed the lighting event. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts were given the opportunity to earn a breast cancer awareness patch by participating in various craft activities in support of breast cancer awareness. Mariachi Damas de Jalisco provided live music.

Metropolitan Methodist Hospital is a leader in the interdisciplinary management of patients with breast cancer. The Metropolitan Methodist Hospital Breast Center is the first and only hospital-based breast care center in South Texas to be certified by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).

The lighting ceremony was part of Be Pink—Methodist Healthcare Breast Cancer Awareness 2012—which included several breast cancer awareness events throughout October.
