Dan Miller

President and Chief Executive Officer, Methodist Healthcare

Dan Miller was appointed President of Methodist Healthcare in 2023, bringing with him twenty years of healthcare leadership experience. Methodist Healthcare is a 50-50 co-ownership between Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., South Texas’ largest non-public funding source of community health care for uninsured patients; and HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. With 30 facilities, including eight hospitals and ten freestanding emergency departments, over 685,000 inpatients and outpatients are served annually. The Methodist Healthcare team is comprised of 12,500, making the system the second-largest private employer in San Antonio. With more than 3,400 credentialed physicians, Methodist Healthcare provides the largest array of medical services in the region, including neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, oncology and women’s services.

Prior to joining Methodist Healthcare, Dan held the title of Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital for five years. Under his leadership, Methodist Hospital maintained an award-winning reputation and received many acclaimed accreditations and awards for clinical excellence and quality outcomes. Methodist Hospital was named among the Fortune and Merative 100 Top Hospitals list in 2022, was recognized as Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for the past four consecutive years, and has received innovation and people’s choice awards. Dan was instrumental in expanding Methodist Hospital’s robust service lines, having recently become the largest hospital in Texas for admissions.

Prior to joining Methodist Healthcare, Dan held the title of Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center of Aurora in Colorado.

DeVry Anderson, MD, MBA, CHCQM, FACHE, CPE

Chief Medical Officer, Methodist Healthcare System

DeVry Anderson, MD, MBA, CHCQM, FACHE, CPE is the Chief Medical Officer of Methodist Healthcare. He is responsible for managing clinical operations, liaising between administration and medical staff, and ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of medical care. Prior to this position, Dr. Anderson served as Chief Medical Officer of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. He is a member of various professional societies including The Society of United States Army Flight Surgeons, SIGMA PI PHI (Boule) International, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also the President of the Austin Black Physicians Association.

He holds multiple degrees, including a B.S. in Chemistry/Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and an M.D., Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He graduated from the Executive Healthcare Leadership Program at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Anderson is also a faith-driven servant leader who is also a licensed Baptist Minister. He has had a diverse career including success as a senior military officer, board-certified physician, combat-proven flight surgeon, clinical professor, entrepreneur, and small business owner.

Jane McCurley, DNP, MBA RN, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE

Chief Nursing Officer, Methodist Healthcare System

Jane McCurley DNP, MBA RN, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE was appointed Chief Nursing Officer for Methodist Hospital in 2017. Prior to joining the executive leadership team, Jane spent nearly fifteen years serving as CNO for Las Colinas Medical Center in Irving, Texas; North Hills Hospital in North Richland, Texas; and St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas. Her most recent position held was Assistant Chief Nurse Executive & Vice President for HCA.

Throughout her tenure as CNO, Jane has been responsible for effective nursing strategy deployment and the design and delivery of quality patient care. Jane has worked collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams for service line growth and was operationally responsible for several major expansion projects. Jane has modeled strong leadership skills and has persuasively aligned nursing practices with the mission of the organization. In her previous roles, she was instrumental in decreasing RN turnover by creating a front line leadership role for improved recruitment and retention of nursing staff. She also led the expansion of an intern onboarding process and a Clinical Nurse Leader Master’s Scholarship Program.

Under her leadership, Jane has worked to consistently improve employee and physician engagement, has decreased employee turnover, and is accredited for the hospital receiving highly-rated patient satisfaction scores. Jane works diligently towards enhancing nurse retention and has implemented the Daisy Awards and the BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) awards for honorees who personify Methodist Healthcare’s remarkable patient experiences. In 2019, Jane proudly introduced the Pickle Challenge to employees, transforming the organizational culture and promoting positivity. One of her many proud achievements is the recognition Methodist Hospital Orthopedics received as a PRISM award winner by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses.

Enrique Bernal

Chief Financial Officer, Methodist Healthcare System

Since 2017, Bernal has served as chief financial officer for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital. Before joining Methodist Healthcare, he was the CFO for HCA’s Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare for five years and CFO for Tenet-owned Sierra Medical Center for five years, both in El Paso, Texas. Prior to that, he served as CFO for HCA’s Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.

During his 16 years as a CFO, Bernal has shaped financial strategies and provided financial acumen to meet established business plans and targets. Throughout his career, Bernal has successfully obtained capital funding for large expansion projects and has negotiated/developed an air medical transport program, ortho and surgical navigator programs, a transfer center program for secondary markets and two urgent care centers.

At the Methodist hospital campus, he oversaw the development and management of several capital expansion projects including a rehab unit, vascular lab, electrophysiology and cardiac catheterization lab, robotic surgery with the daVinci surgical system, Ion and Ortho platforms, and imaging expansions/replacements.

By working closely with physicians and nursing partners, he was integral in the development and growth of new hospital-based programs within extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), cardiothoracic, CAR-T and burn service lines.

Bernal is a graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting.

Barry Burns

Regional Vice President – Human Resources, Methodist Healthcare

Barry Burns joined Methodist Healthcare in December 2003 and has served in various Human Resources leadership positions within the System prior to being promoted to his current role as Vice President of Human Resources in August, 2010. In this capacity, Burns oversees overall HR strategy and support for the System’s nine freestanding hospitals and approximately 12,000 employees.

Prior to his time as the Regional VP of Human Resources, Burns completed two cooperative education rotations while attending Texas A&M, and then went on to work full time with the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston as a Human Resources Representative. After spending seven years as a federal employee with both NASA and the United States Attorney’s Office, Burns began his career in healthcare where he served in leadership roles with Houston’s Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, and Houston Methodist.
